Now available in the Pilot Phase, the California DMV Mobile Wallet provides Californians with a secure and convenient way to present their driver's license or identification card using their smartphones through a Mobile Driver's License (mDL) digital credential.

The California DMV Wallet empowers users by giving them control over the driver's license data they share with others. For instance, when purchasing age-restricted items, the app can verify the user's legal age without requiring the disclosure of their birth date or address.

With the mDL integrated into the CA DMV Wallet, users can effortlessly navigate through TSA queues at airports using their mobile phones. Furthermore, they can enroll in the TruAge program via the Wallet Marketplace, allowing them to buy age-verified products from nearby corner stores (starting with select pilot locations in California and expanding nationally). Additionally, the Wallet will soon support online identity verification for government and commercial applications.

Designed with California's diverse population in mind, the open-source CA DMV Wallet platform incorporates state-of-the-art encryption algorithms and security technologies to combat fraud, enhance privacy, reduce identity theft, and improve access for all Californians who possess a smartphone.

It is important to note that while the mDL can function as an official state-issued ID within the approved pilot scope set by the California legislature, it is still necessary to carry a physical driver's license or identification card as well.
